Shop Today, Coupon Another Day

The Sun was shinning, the birds singing and the husband kindly forsook an opportunity to attend a Laser Quest even to stay at home taking care of our babies while I headed to the mall, sipping a latte and rocking out to alternative music in our little red Honda. Shopping at PC Richards, Old Navy, Boscovs and elsewhere was the exactly what I was in the mood to do that day.

It was at Kohls when I found the most utterly adorable shoes I have ever seen that I noticed a contradiction in myself over money management and my attempts to be save money. Those kickbutt shoes I found were actually 4 inch black leather heels and I’m not going to lie, I thought I looked bad ass enough that I could take on Uma Thurman’s character in “Kill Bill.” Okay, so maybe I’m delusional, but that’s not the point.

That day I walked out of there having not bought those shoes or anything at all. After all I didn’t have a coupon and I NEVER shop at Kohls without a coupon. Instead I can only dream about what it would have been like to swagger down the grocery store aisles in those four inch bad boys. Instead those poor unloved high heels remain un-purchased, unowned, frightened and alone in the shoe aisle at Kohls. This is all a true story, except for the last part of course. :) While I don’t have those shoes I did exercise financial diligence and for that I am happy.

Next I hit up another store and found a few jewelry and clothing gems worthy of purchase or dare I say, I found a few things I was dying to own and show off to the hubby. And an odd thing occurred, I made the purchase and being that I had no coupons, no discounts, I had to pay full price and this I was willing to do and the full weight of my hypocrisy revealed itself. See, I came do understand that at certain stores I have developed something of a religious coupon-using habit, whereas at other stores I have not developed this habit and am open to shopping even without money-saving discounts.

Yes, I should probably enroll in some sort of program that teaches me to be an insanely extreme coupon user and maybe someday I will, but as for right now, I’m fine with not owning those black heels and I’m find with owning the full price jewelry I bought just a few moments later. Consistency is overrated. And at the end of the day, if I can find a coupon I may just go back and get those heels and give this take and happy ending.
